Royal Columbian Hospital (2026)

 

Royal Columbian’s redevelopment is one of the largest government funded capital health care projects in B.C.’s history.

The estimated $1.49 billion, three-phase redevelopment project is funded by the provincial government, Fraser Health and the Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation.

Phase two: New tower, emergency (2020-2025)

Phase two will create a new acute care tower and expand the hospital’s bed capacity.

 
  • More beds for intensive care, cardiac intensive care, obstetrical, and medical/ surgical patients

  • New, larger Emergency Department with 75 treatment bays and a satellite medical imaging unit

  • More operating rooms and interventional radiology and cardiac suites on a surgical and interventional ‘superfloor’

ATRIUM HEALTH’S CAROLINAS MEDICAL CENTER, CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA

142,750 sq ft (RENOVATION) 44,000 sq ft (ADDITION) Surgical Modernization, NICU, Maternity, and OR

Multi-year, multi-phased comprehensive modernization of the entire surgery department, which touched more than 50 percent of the medical center’s entire footprint. It involved 35 separate phases of renovations, including relocations and renovations in 11 wings.  Major phases included: 7th and 8th Floors NICU Nursery, OR Extension and Modernization.

Overlake Medical Center – Project Future Care

Overlake Medical Center’s $250 million, five-year campus renewal project

 
  • A new, five-story inpatient tower featuring a new childbirth center, which comprises labor and delivery, emergency obstetrics, mother and baby unit, and a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

  • Increased bed capacity in medical surgery, oncology,telemetry and orthopedics

  • Two new operating room (OR) suites — one with hybrid OR technology and one state-of-the-art cardiac suite

  • An expanded behavioral health unit

  • A new, dedicated emergency department entrance off of NE 10th St. for improved patient drop-off and area for mass casualty incident response

  • A new circle drive leading to the single, main hospital entrance with concourse entry points, enhanced wayfinding and intuitive patient flow

Boulder Community – Health Foothills Campus

 

BOULDER COMMUNITY HEALTH – FOOTHILLS CAMPUS, BOULDER COLORADO

Boulder Associates’ design was recognized as the country’s first LEED Certified healthcare project in 2003 and the hospital received numerous awards representing a new benchmark in sustainable design and patient care.

Phase 1 – Boulder Community Foothills Hospital, 258,600 sq ft, $83 million greenfield hospital.  The 60-bed facility is sited on a 49-acre parcel of which 32-acres is permanent open space, and is paired with a 67,000 square foot outpatient services building.

Phase II – Anderson Medical Center and Hospital Expansion. The second phase of the original master plan for this greenfield campus added 115,500 s.f. in the form of two new inpatient wings to the existing 165,000 s.f. hospital, as well as a new 47,290 s.f. medical office building to supplement the existing 99,000 s.f. medical office building.

 
  • The additions allowed the hospital to increase to 130 beds, as well as expanded emergency, imaging, surgery, support services, and added a cath lab.

  • The medical office building added physician suites, a surgery center, and a cardiopulmonary suite. ​​​​​​​54,000 s.f. was added to the existing parking garage, topped off with a new helipad.

  • This complex, 13-phased project with multiple sub-phases included renovating 85,000 s.f. of existing hospital space as well, all the time minimizing disruption of ongoing operations.

  • This challenge was most evident in the addition that was built directly over the existing ED. We managed to successfully accomplish this and renovate the ED, more than doubling its size, without ever closing.

  • The new 18-bed ICU and 18-bed Comprehensive Cancer Program look out over two of the seven new gardens.

  • Sustainable features include a green roof, solar panels, low water landscape features, and locally sourced materials. The project achieved 18% energy reduction as a result of some of these efforts.
